Books, Books, Books

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, February 15, 2013, In : Witch
Much as I love my kobo, I spent a few hours today picking out some new reading material - REAL BOOKS!

I managed to find a Charlaine Harris title that so far I've only read on my e-reader and I picked up half a dozen Darren Shan books from his 'Demonology' series.  I loved his Saga of Darren Shan so buying this set of books was a no-brainer for me and I daresay a full review of each will follow as soon as I have time to catch up!  Having worked a little on fairy tales at college this past month...

Once Upon a Time

Posted by Andrea Lake on Monday, May 28, 2012, In : Witch
Is anyone else watching this fantasy drama on Channel 5?

Created by the same writing team who dreamed up Tron and Lost, it's a cross over between a "real life" place called Storybrooke, Maine and a magical Enchanted Forest incorporating the scope and characters of fairy tales and stories.

Many of the events throughout the series appear to strongly echo the stories in many of our favourite fairy stories, with the aptly named town Mayor, Regina, strongly reminiscent of Snow White's evil witch of ...

Ain't No "Secret" Circle Any More...

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, May 25, 2012, In : Witch
I hate it when I'm proved right!

I knew John Blackwell was trouble right from day one, (okay, so I didn't!)  But after I realised that his breaking up of Cassie and Adam was more to do with John's own self-serving plans rather than any curse, I knew all was not what it seemed.  He has been playing with his own dark magic side since he returned to Chance Harbor.

In a way, I'm glad that Diana has plans to get out of Chance Harbor for a while.  However, her being a witch is going to cause problems...

Finally Caught Up With The Secret Circle

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, May 11, 2012, In : Witch
I am really loving The Secret Circle.  Cassie Blake is the beautiful and somewhat beleaguered heroine of the story who has been reunited with her father.  The thing is John Blackwell definitely appears to have his own agenda.  He has come between Cassie and her boyfriend Adam Conant, deliberately severing their intimate connection and stomping on anyone who gets in his way.

I certainly wasn't surprised that Cassie had a sister; and I was less surprised by who this turned out to be.  I must adm...

True Blood: Season 4

Posted by Andrea Lake on Saturday, March 10, 2012, In : Witch
I can't believe it has taken me so long to do a write up on this particular series.

I've been a fan of True Blood since I switched on the telly one night and joined the first series, about four episodes in!  Within ten minutes my husband had logged off the computer and had joined me.  This particular television program is a far cry from Vampire Diaries and Twilight.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love these too.  I adore Sanctuary and Heroes, but True Blood is the program I watch over and o...

Grimm - Intriguing?

Posted by Andrea Lake on Sunday, February 12, 2012, In : Witch
As a massive fan of the genre, it's pretty exciting to have Sky as it gives you access to programmes you might not be able to see for months and years afterwards.  For example, Series 4 of True Blood has just started being shown on FX because Series 3 has just finished being shown on the main channels.

Once in a while though, a new series comes along, and I must admit, I'm really looking forward to Grimm.  The tagline for this particular series is "Not your usual suspects".  One suspects that ...

The Time for Dragon Riders will Come Again...

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, January 27, 2012, In : Witch
Eragon... Eldest... Brisingr... Inheritance...  I have all four of them now and have just started reading Brisingr.

Eragon's story, I already knew thanks mainly to the cinematic release.  However, I think the pundits in Hollywood did a massive disservice to this particular film!

They got some of the action right, but some parts of it were sped up, which was confusing at best, and other times the film seemed to go so slow.  It's a shame, because the film had so much potential and I really can't ...

Charmed Life

Posted by Andrea Lake on Monday, January 23, 2012, In : Witch
I'm not a witch, but I do have a favourite television show focused entirely on a trio of witches who are dedicated to fighting demons and devoted to protecting all that is good.  Of course I'm talking about Charmed!

I remember watching the very first Charmed pilot so many years ago (I dare not even think back that far!) and I was captivated, spellbound - hook, line and sinker.  Of course, I recognised Shannon Doherty (Prue) from Beverley Hills 90210 and could just about recall Alyssa Milano (P...

Secret No Longer Circle

Posted by Andrea Lake on Thursday, January 19, 2012, In : Witch
One of the television programs I'm avidly watching presently is The Secret Circle.  This particular series is written by L.J. Smith (same author of Vampire Diaries) and I am hooked!

As a brief synopsis, a teenage girl (Cassie Blake) gets a flat tyre as she's returning home.  She calls her mother to let her know what's happening and the phone goes dead.  Outside a mysterious man causes Cassie's mother to die in a fire and Cassie goes to live with her grandmother, sparking a whole series of ev...
