The Talisman - Stephen King and Peter Straub

Posted by Andrea Lake on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, In : Regular
I have lost count of the number of times I have bought The Talisman in recent years.  I have loaned it out to friends various times and never once got it back!

This tale is extremely engaging.  Who wouldn't be totally horrified by the thought of a 12-year-old boy making his way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean on a cross-country journey, unaided by friends or family?  The prepubescent Jack Sawyer is desperate to find a cure for his cancer-riddled mother and slowly makes his way acr...

Truth Really Is Stranger Than Fiction…

Posted by Andrea Lake on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, In : Zombie
The subject of zombies has inundated movie theatres since the 1970s and remains a popular part of cult literature, wowing both television and movie audiences across the globe.

However, the first film of the genre is White Zombie, released in 1932, in which a young man turns to the dark arts in order to wrest the woman he loves from her fiancé, but turns her into a zombie slave instead with unexpected results.  More recent times have seen blood and gore fests, like the 1968 classic, Night ...

Once Upon a Time

Posted by Andrea Lake on Monday, May 28, 2012, In : Witch
Is anyone else watching this fantasy drama on Channel 5?

Created by the same writing team who dreamed up Tron and Lost, it's a cross over between a "real life" place called Storybrooke, Maine and a magical Enchanted Forest incorporating the scope and characters of fairy tales and stories.

Many of the events throughout the series appear to strongly echo the stories in many of our favourite fairy stories, with the aptly named town Mayor, Regina, strongly reminiscent of Snow White's evil witch of ...

Supernatural Supermarket - part 2

Posted by Andrea Lake on Sunday, May 27, 2012, In : Ghosts
If you are looking for a spookier supermarket, you might want to try this one in Australia.

A packet of Roll ups appears to jump off the shelf, completely unaided, and sprawls across the floor.  There's no footage of any apparition or ghostly images, just this packet that moves by itself...

However, there is someone in the store while this is happening, so I suppose it is possible that it has been engineered - invisible fishing wire, for example.  Inexplicable events do occur and there have bee...

Ain't No "Secret" Circle Any More...

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, May 25, 2012, In : Witch
I hate it when I'm proved right!

I knew John Blackwell was trouble right from day one, (okay, so I didn't!)  But after I realised that his breaking up of Cassie and Adam was more to do with John's own self-serving plans rather than any curse, I knew all was not what it seemed.  He has been playing with his own dark magic side since he returned to Chance Harbor.

In a way, I'm glad that Diana has plans to get out of Chance Harbor for a while.  However, her being a witch is going to cause problems...

Finally Caught Up With The Secret Circle

Posted by Andrea Lake on Friday, May 11, 2012, In : Witch
I am really loving The Secret Circle.  Cassie Blake is the beautiful and somewhat beleaguered heroine of the story who has been reunited with her father.  The thing is John Blackwell definitely appears to have his own agenda.  He has come between Cassie and her boyfriend Adam Conant, deliberately severing their intimate connection and stomping on anyone who gets in his way.

I certainly wasn't surprised that Cassie had a sister; and I was less surprised by who this turned out to be.  I must adm...
